Berlin, 2017. Roy Uhlmann and Adam Bahlke set out to rethink autonomous driving by building systems grounded in cognitive principles and rigorous safety engineering.

Today, MOTOR Ai brings together expertise across cognitive neuroscience, automotive safety, and mobility operations. The focus remains the same: building an autonomous system that is designed to be understandable, reliable, and ready for real-world deployment.

Our Vision

MOTOR Ai engineers its autonomous driving stack for real-world deployment from day one.

Our system is grounded in cognitive neuroscience and Active Inference, combining neuroscience-inspired principles with rigorous safety engineering to operate reliably in complex environments.

We believe autonomous mobility should extend beyond major cities, making safe and reliable transport a practical reality for both urban and rural communities.

2017
Founding of MOTOR Ai
Roy Uhlmann and Adam Bahlke co-founded MOTOR Ai at the factory on Bernauer Straße, Berlin, Germany. Establishing the only German autonomous company with a proprietary, self-developed Autonomous Driving Stack.
2019
Shaping AI standards in mobility
MOTOR Ai Co-Founder and CTO Adam Bahlke contributed to Germany's AI Standardization Roadmap, with key stakeholders from government, industry, science, and civil society published at the Digital Gipfel 2020.
2020
Horizon 2020 funding secured
MOTOR Ai received support from the European Commission's Horizon 2020 program, recognizing its innovation and impact in autonomous mobility technology.
2021
New headquarters
MOTOR Ai relocated its operations to Pfuelstraße 5, Berlin, marking a new chapter of growth and development in the heart of Berlin.
2022
Workshop facility opened in Tegel
MOTOR Ai launched its own workshop at the old Tegel airport, enabling in-house testing, vehicle integration and recustomization to accelerate development and deployment.
2024
IMoGer Project
IMoGer is a DLR-led research project testing modular autonomous mobility in real urban environments. MOTOR Ai provides the Level 4 autonomous driving software powering the innovative U-Shift vehicles.
2025
Testing permit secured and new office
In March, MOTOR Ai received its official autonomous vehicle testing permit, a major step forward in real-world deployment. The team also relocated into a new, bigger office to support continued growth on Scheringstraße 1, Berlin.
